Grounding in nature against stress, tension, and listlessness

Are you suffering from stress, tension or a listless feeling? Take yourself outside and get grounded again! You live more in the present, you are more relaxed and more present in your body when you are well grounded.

What is grounding?

Grounding is a phenomenon that describes the connection between humans and nature. In today's society, we constantly live with technology, concrete walls, buildings, traffic, and many stimuli that did not originate from nature. Grounding helps you return to your roots, both literally and figuratively.

By consciously applying more grounding in your life, you can strengthen your bond with nature and develop a deeper understanding of your place in the world and the universe. It offers not only physical benefits such as better sleep and relief from inflammation, but also spiritual enrichment and a sense of connection with everything around us.

By grounding yourself in the earth more often, you learn to connect more with yourself and nature.

How can you ground yourself?

We are happy to give you some tips to ground yourself more in nature:

  1. Visit the forest or beach this week: just being present in nature helps to ground yourself. So, as a first step, this is a great one!
  2. Take a long walk, preferably without music or a podcast. Pay attention to where your feet touch the ground and be present in the moment and with nature. You can even visualize absorbing energy from nature.
  3. Walk barefoot in the grass or sand. Make real contact by standing with your bare feet in the grass or walking through the sand on the beach, for example.
  4. Go into the water (with your feet). Swimming in natural water or walking with your feet in the surf at the beach is very grounding!
  5. Lie in the grass. Lie in the grass (on a nice summer or spring day) and here too you can visualize making contact with the earth, or you can just relax and lie down.
  6. Go gardening. Get your hands in the earth and make contact and engage with nature.
  7. Exercise or yoga outdoors. Go outside for your next sports activity; yoga is a great way to also embrace slowing down.

Set an intention Do you feel a bit stressed? Or are you too much in your head? Perhaps you don't feel like going outside? Take action! Put on your shoes, or don't for an extra connection, and take the first step outside. To ground yourself extra, it helps to set an intention such as 'I connect with nature; it gives me energy' or 'I let the wind blow all thoughts out of my head; I am present in the moment'.

Also, enjoy being outside, have fun and tell yourself that it's nice to go outside. You only need to go for 5 minutes, and perhaps once you're out there, you might want to stay a little longer.
