The Influence of Electromagnetic Fields

Everywhere you go, you are surrounded by radiation, which can come from the sun's rays shining on you, from your phone, or from cell towers. An electromagnetic field is created, for example, during the generation or use of electricity and wireless communication. The electromagnetic field is the field that occupies all of space, with the magnetic field perpendicular to it. The different types of radiation are divided into two categories: 'non-ionizing' and 'ionizing' - better known as 'radioactive radiation'.


Health complaints due to electro-hypersensitivity

Some people experience symptoms such as headaches, muscle pain, and/or joint pain; the Knowledge Platform Electromagnetic Fields states that this is called electro-hypersensitivity. Other symptoms include heart rhythm disorders, skin problems, fatigue, and concentration problems. For many people, these symptoms are not an issue, but it may be wise to reduce your exposure.

Tips against electromagnetic radiation

  • Keep as much distance as possible from electromagnetic sources. Devices such as microwaves, wireless routers, and electrical appliances emit radiation; the further away you are, the less radiation you are exposed to.

  • Reduce your wireless usage: limit the use of wireless devices such as your mobile phone, tablets, and laptops. If possible, you can also use an internet cable instead of Wi-Fi.

  • Turn on airplane mode: when you are not using your phone, you can turn on airplane mode to limit electromagnetic radiation.

  • Cables instead of wireless: headphones or earphones with a cable are a better choice when it comes to radiation. You can also use a cable for other accessories such as a keyboard.

  • Reduce while sleeping: turn off devices while you sleep and make sure you have no/as few electrical devices as possible in your bedroom.

  • Shielding: metal or special coatings provide protection against radiation. For example, special paint or certain curtains.

Sometimes it is not an option to completely escape exposure, but you have some control over reducing your exposure!
