Dandruff, also known as pityriasis capitis, is a common and irritating problem that affects the scalp. It is often accompanied by white flakes that can accumulate on the scalp and clothing. But it's not just a cosmetic inconvenience; it can also cause itching and irritation. In this blog, we'll examine exactly what dandruff is, what its possible causes are, and how supplements can help alleviate this discomfort.
What is dandruff?
Dandruff is a common scalp condition characterized by skin flaking. It occurs when the natural cell renewal of the scalp accelerates beyond normal, causing dead skin cells to accumulate and become visible as white flakes.
Typically, it takes an average of 3 weeks for your scalp to renew itself. With dandruff, this process happens twice as fast. The skin flakes cannot shed quickly enough, causing them to clump together and become visible. These flakes can appear anywhere on the scalp, and in some cases, they can even fall onto the shoulders.
Because the sebaceous glands also become overactive and secrete more sebum, itching can occur. Dandruff is a mild form of seborrheic dermatitis. In this condition, the fatty acid composition of the sebaceous glands is imbalanced, leading to skin flaking. When an inflammatory response occurs in the body, slight swelling and redness can develop.
Causes of dandruff
Although the exact cause of dandruff is not fully understood, several factors can contribute to its development.
Skin sensitivity
People with a sensitive scalp may be more prone to dandruff. Irritation from hair products, hot water, or certain weather conditions can worsen symptoms.
Hormonal changes
Hormonal changes, such as those during puberty, pregnancy, or certain medical conditions, can increase the likelihood of dandruff.
Additionally, stress, emotional tension, and cold, dry air can exacerbate dandruff symptoms.

Tips to relieve dandruff
We'd like to share some tips with you to reduce dandruff symptoms.
Washing hair
Use natural shampoo and massage your scalp while washing. Avoid shampoos designed for oily hair, as these dry out the scalp, leading to excessive sebum production. Give your scalp a chance to recover and do not wash it more than twice a week.
